Disgusted and Disappointed

I just read this tonight, www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/07/23/obama-victory-necessarily-goal-afghanistan/

I am honestly sitting here in shock trying to comprehend it all.

I am reading comments like

…but "victory" in the war-torn country isn’t necessarily the United States’ goal…

of worse yet things like this

"I’m always worried about using the word ‘victory,’ because, you know, it invokes this notion of Emperor Hirohito coming down and signing a surrender to MacArthur," Obama told ABC News.

and I think to myself, is this guy really the Commander in Chief? Is this the guy charged with leading our country’s military? Is this the guy that 53% of America put into office. Hope, Change? WHAT?

Since when did the word “Victory” become a bad word? Is there something wrong with Victory? Didn’t he like it when he we victorious in the Presidential campaign, didn’t he like the sweet taste of victory when the Chicago Bulls won the many championships they won?

There are only two things that you can do in war, WIN or LOSE. There is no in-between. There is no gray area. You don’t sorta win or almost lose. You either WIN or LOSE.

So if VICTORY is not the goal of the war in Afghanistan, then what is the goal? LOSING? Is that what we are going to do? Are we going to gracefully exit? Are we going to slip out the back door when NATO isn’t looking?

I am thoroughly disgusted and ashamed right now. I am also very disappointed in every American that voted this guy into office. You should be ashamed of yourself. There is no turning back the clock, there is no “oh I didn’t know he would be this bad”. It is too late, he is there and as far as I am concerned with statements like this coming out of the mouth of our Commander in Chief of the military, the deaths of every service-member (coalition and US) are in vain.

I am sorry Mac, Rod, Deg, Fayez, McKay, Walton, Raff, Palm, Hilton, Fabrizi, Bradshaw and all the rest of our fallen warriors in Afghanistan. Apparently your deaths were not in pursuit of a victory but instead for pursuit of…..something else.

  1. OMG WHAT is he thinking? I have NEVER liked the man and I don’t give a crap if he is our CIC or not; I STILL do NOT like him or his ways. He is destroying our country and it is a crying shame!!
As the old saying goes…”those that voted for him are getting what they asked for” BUT….unfortunately all of us have to suffer and try to keep our senses with this kind of crap going on. It is not easy but I will ALWAYS be a true American regardless what he does or says. Why, why, why did we allow him to get his foot in the door? He should be ashamed but what else should we expect from someone that they say isn’t even an American CITIZEN!!! Enough said….I am boiling and may say something I shouldn’t.

  2. I have to ask you, in all honestly, what does victory look like to you? Cheny discribed victory as leaving a “western-facing” government in place. Does that mean they have to like us as well? What if they put together a strong government, free of terrorism, but based on Sharia Law? Unlike in Iraq, this area hasn’t had a stable government in 20 years. Now we need to give them one?? Who is paying for it? We went into Afghanistan originally to get rid of the Taliban. then it was to get Osama Bin Ladden. Now what?
I’m seriously interested in your answer because you have experience there that I don’t.

  3. When are people going to STOP making excuses for OB1? Dpes the American public actually think that anything short of victory will keep us safer? Will prevent us from spending more money on the war on terror? My understanding and hope for A’stan is VICTORY. Victory in the sense that the Taliban are knocked out, and that women get better rights, that AQ doesn’t have a foothold anywhere in the region, and hopefully that OBL is found and hung.

This is absolutely unacceptable to have such a cowardly POTUS. Someone who doesn’t give a rats behind about the troops, and who doesn’t honor the sacrifices made. If victory is not what he has in mind, then what> That is a good question. Why did he beef up troop levels in A’stan? Why did he take credit, where none was due for him, on Iraq? And what are his plans for the military? We may not have the largest military in the world, but we do have the most kick *bleep* military. Take that away and what do you think you will have Obama apologizers?

  4. I think we should have defined “victory” before we went into either area. That said, in the over nuanced world he is doing expectation management.
What if we kicked the Taliban to the curb and built a strong government that doesn’t allow women to participate and is largely based on Sharia Law, did we win? What if drug trafficking is still 30% of the economy?
