The Frontlines Weekly Update Brief (March 28-April 3, 2011)

THE FRONTLINES OF AFGHANISTAN

Taliban insurgents have led several attacks against Americans and Allied forces in retaliation for an American priest who burned the Koran as a media stunt for his declining church. The stunt angered many in the Islamic world and was deplored as an act of selfish stupidity by top American officials.  Norwegian embassy workers were also killed in attacks by insurgents. Street protests were rampant as the Afghan population reacted to the news of the Koran building and an Afghan police offiers killed two Americans in retribution for the priest’s act of intolerance. Since our last report 19 more American have died in Operation Enduring Freedom. The war in Afghanistan has claimed 78 American lives thus far in 2011, and the total for the war is now 1,524 (www.icasualties.org).

THE FRONTLINES OF IRAQ

“Sticky Bombs” attached to a police vehicle detonated, wounding several Iraqis near Ramadi. Indirect fire attacks near Kirkuk and several Iranian border guards were killed in a grenade attack on their post. Two American soldiers died in Iraq since our last update due to an indirect fire attack on their base.  American soldiers killed in 2011 is 13 and an overall death total of 4,443 (www.icasualties.org).
